ANAK Blueprint Entries
- 1908
Anak is a senior society whose
members are selected from those who have shown
the greatest interest and zeal in promoting and
helping in any movement which tends to uplift and
develop the different phases of college life. The
Great object of this society is to originate or
help develop by carefully outlined plans such
measures as will make for the betterment of the
college. The efforts of the society have met with
great success and as the influence of Anak grows
even greater success will follow. The Glee Club,
The Honor Code system, The Annual and our
Commencement owe their life mainly to Anak.
- 1910
Anak is now in its second year
and its past growth gives great promise of the
future. It is composed of men from the Senior
Class of Georgia Tech who have shown themselves
zealous in the development of college spirit.
This organization is not here, primarily, as a
social club or honorary society, but to do all it
can to develop a better morale among the student
body and improve all phases of college life. To
its efforts, in a great degree, are due our Glee
Club, our Annual, the extension of our honor
system, and the improvement of our commencement
exercises. We feel that these accomplishments are
things of which we may justly be proud.
- 1940
Anak is the oldest honorary
organization on the Tech campus, an is the
highest local honor a Tech student may obtain.
Many members of the organization have gained
national prominence since its founding in 1908,
and they have served as an inspiration to the
annual new members.
Members are elected twice yearly
from the Senior Class. They are men who are
outstanding among their fellow students by right
of their popularity and their achievements for
services to Georgia Tech.
- 1945
Anak was founded at Tech in 1908,
and has the distinction of being the oldest
honorary organization on the campus. To be chosen
a member is the highest honor that any senior may
obtain. The members of Anak are chosen as the
most outstanding men in the Senior Class, as
judged by their achievements and services to
Georgia Tech. Announcement of new members is made
at Anak's unique tapping exercises during the I.
F. C. dances each semester.
- 1963
The Georgia Tech ANAK Society was
organized on Jan. 1, 1908 to honor a few select
men of the Senior Class who had shown themselves
to be outstanding among their fellow students in
their accomplishments and service on the Tech
campus.
- 1994
Throughout the year, the members
of ANAK identified problems and worked to realize
projects that benefited the Georgia Institute of
Technology, its students and its faculty.
Founded in 1908 by four Tech
seniors (C. H. Baughn, Lewis Goodier, Charles
Sweet, and George McCarty), ANAK is the oldest
honor society at Georgia Tech. Since that time,
ANAK has spurred the creation of many campus
establishments such as the Georgia Tech Honor
Code, The Technique, the Freshman Rat Cap, the
Student Government, and the Mayer Japanese Garden
(located near the Skiles Building). Another long
term project of the organization is the funding
of the George Wingfield Semmes Scholarship. The
recipient of this esteemed scholarship need only
be an engineering major here at Tech. The
majority of these and many other projects were
completed by the group on an anonymous basis.
Membership in ANAK was highly
confidential and the members were not publicly
recognized until the time of their graduation.
Students who were asked to join the group were
recognized by its members for their leadership
ability, personal achievement, strong character,
and love for Georgia Tech.
Constantly working behind the
scenes, members sought no recognition for their
service to Tech. To be invited to become a part
of this esteemed organization had long been
considered the highest honor that an
undergraduate student could receive while a
student at Georgia Tech.
