OtakuCon - the Jess review Last Updated: December 2004
Jess #2:
Early morning wake-up fun… -_- Managed to sleep in the car for a little bit, the Honda is less comfortable than most cars. Twas a bit difficult to sleep dispite the fact that sleeping is my natural state in cars. The backseat armrest (aka pillow) was hard because it was also a compartment. Woke up not far into Oji-sama's drive but decided I minus well go to sleep again as she thought I was staring at her whilst awake. What hotel makes guests pay for parking?! Slept on the floor in a big pile of blankets after finding that these beds were quite smaller that AWA's and there was no way I'd have enough room to be comfortable with two other people. At least I didn't end up making a fort in the closet. ^_~

Spent a good 3 hours or so trying to get badges, but at least that wasn't all at once. Wandered in the dealer's room for quite sometime whilst waiting for the Artist Alley to open, at least that was amusing. FF7: AC trailers draw people like little else. Twas quite amusing to watch their gleeful faces as they stand and stare. All the people in booths around us were cool. [Insert shout outs to Anything Goes, Metro Con, Silvertales, and Shonen Studios amongst others] Maboroshi seemed a bit bored and was amusing himself by randomly taking pictures of everyone, can't wait to see those. ^_^ Oji-sama talked enough about the horrid registration troubles… I got by most of my table time asking people if they had the Anime Network. Apparently advertising a 24-7 anime channel does get the attention of most people. ^_^ Including a couple of "Oh my God! Yes! I love you people!." My greatest annoyance besides the panels I wanted going missing was that someone else had the Anime Network petition there. Mustn't annihilate competition, Doppel-san… -_-*

Followed Vic around a bit, followed Carri Savage around a bit, they're both positively awesome. In fact, most of the guests were splendid beyond compare. Got to see the little fangirl in Oji-sama come out which was one of the most amusing things. ^_^ I couldn't believe that, Tomonori Ochikoshi, the producer for R.O.D. TV was there. I felt quite sad that he seemed to get little attention. I also got to chit-chat with him a bit when waiting on the valie parking, I hope he enjoyed the talk as much as I did… Kept accidentally talking to his translator instead of himself. -_- Spoke with NOATED.com which was quite cool as I used to use them a few years ago before they revamped, will be returning to use them soon. Geneon rep was also marvelous, we had a nice long talk (I love so many of their titles) and he had heard from O-tekku and about MomoCon, which was cool, wasn't sure they were getting our e-mails. ^_~

There are no words to describe the Kirby Morrow fangirls there. @_@

The voice actor panels I went to were on time, but that's about it. I tried going to the Prop Forge and a couple of others. Rather convinced they didn't take place… I can understand one though, the Viz guy wasn't feeling good and skipped his panel. Hope he's feeling better. Disorganization also had most of the VAs wandering for periods of time.

Overall, the hotel didn't feel 5-star at all, long drive, and awesome guests but poorly run con. Not sure if there wasn't enough time to plan or what. I'm sure everyone tried their hardest. A thank you to all the staff that ran the con and helped me when I was confused or lost.
