What is the ASA? The African Student Association (ASA) at Georgia Tech, founded in 1990, is one of the cultural groups associated with the Office of International Student Services and Programs (OISSP). The pioneering officers and members: Stephen Okelo-Odongo (President), Partha Datta (Vice-President), Bolaji Olutade (Treasurer), Darren Pascavage (Secretary), Acha Leke, Evaristus Ejelle, Sam Fanday, and Mathew Abakah paved the way for the organization as it exists today.
ASA was initially founded as a means of bringing students from various African countries together socially, and this continues to be our primary objective but all interested parties are welcome to join.e to join.
ASA is a social organization at Georgia Tech committed to the integration of African students on campus. As a group, we plan get-togethers to help us interact in a less academically charged environment. Our organisation takes part annually in the conference of International African Students Association, an event that brings together African Students from all over the USA and Canada.
Membership for the Georgia Tech ASA is $15 per semester. We use this money for planning and organizing events (social, sports, etc) and also to provide some free food at the meetings. To join our great organization, simply come to any of our meetings or click the "Join Us!" link in the options menu.
We are on the Newsgroups at git.club.asa but most of our discussion goes on through our mailing lists asa-general@lists.gatech.edu.
