Astronomy Club General Meeting

  • Announcements:
    • Astronomy Lectures at 3pm every Thursday at the Astrophysics center (Physics building room N110)
    • Need Volunteers for Boy Scout merit badge clinic on 15th Nov. We will teach boy scouts about general astronomy topics.
    • Camping trip (Peach state star gaze) will be on 4-5 Oct. Cost is $20. Bring your own tents & sleeping bags. You can rent these from ORGT. Please let us know ASAP when you’re certain that you want to go, since we need to reserve spots. Remember to pay $20 to our treasurer.
    • Visit to Fernbank Observatory Friday 9/26 to watch the planetarium show ‘Exploring the Red Planet’ and to view 36inch telescope. Cost is $5 for non-members, free for members. Please meet in front of physics building by 7pm. Transportation will be provided. Students in Dr Sowell’s class may be able to get extra credit. Please check with your professor for requirements.
    • Open scope night next Wednesday 9/24 at 9pm at yellow jackets park.
  • Michael Garner gave a demo on features of ‘Celestia’, another free planetarium software.
  • Shen presented ‘Top 10 space images ever taken’ and showed videos about the ‘Hubble Deep Field’ and about amateur astronomy telescopes.
