First Astronomy Club Meeting

Free pizza and refreshments
- This semester’s camping trip will be at the end of March, after Spring Break.
- We will visit the Fernbank observatory possibly on Feb 23.
- 2 officer positions are open: vice president and publicity coordinator – Email Michael Garner at mgarner1130@gatech.edu if interested.
- Folks from the Georgia Tech Astrophysics Center will be coming to talk about black holes during one of the meetings. Exact date TBA.
- Michael introduced the Astronomy Club to new members and talked about activities that the club will be doing this semester...
- Solar observations at Skiles walkway using the club’s new hydrogen-alpha telescope.
- Visiting Tech’s 16-inch telescope at the observatory located at the roof of the Physics building.
- Opening scope nights at the yellow jacket park/ Skiles walkway. Anyone can participate. This is one of the ways the club tries to attract new members.
- Astronomy quiz bowl with great prizes.
- Boy scout merit badge clinic – Teach kids from middle or high school about astronomy-related subjects.
- Each meeting, we will try to have one member to volunteer to present an astronomy topic of his/her choice.
- Next meeting will be in 2 weeks time on 16 Feb.
