Spring 2007 Badminton Tournament

General Information

Welcome to Georgia Tech Badminton Tournament for Spring 2007. The tournament will on be March 10th, 2007. Each match takes approximately 30 minutes. The tournament should start from 9am and end at 5pm, depending on the progress.

Every student, faculty and staff of Georgia Tech is eligible to participate in this tournament. As much as we want to accomodate all players that are interested in the tournament, we also want to ensure better organization of the tournament. Therefore, we would limit the number of participants to a maximum number. If there is an overwhelming response rate, we would consider extending the limitations or have a qualifying round. In any case, those interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible. There are 5 categories in this tournament:

1) Men's Single 32 Players
2) Men's Doubles 16 Pairs
3) Women's Single 32 Players
4) Women's Doubles 16 Pairs
5) Mixed Doubles 16 Pairs

It costs $5 to participate in each category. However, if you are already a member of Badminton Club, this tournament will be free for you. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to be part of us. You can sign up today and enjoy the benefits or being a member.

How to register for the tournament?

All you need to do is to complete your personal data on the database Spring 2007 Tournament Participants. You need to be a member of the GT Badminton Yahoo group before you can input your information.

Application Deadline: March 3rd, 2007

Tournament Rules

1. This is a single-elimination tournament, meaning that the loser of each match is immediately eliminated.

2. Each match consists of three games with 15 points each. You can only earn a point during your serve. Whoever wins two out of three games wins the match. General badminton rules apply! Note: we may also adopt the new 21-point match system.

3. Schedules of the tournament will be posted by March 8th, 2007. Please check the website by then.

4. Players need to show up at the badminton courts 15 minutes before a match and report themselves to the authorities. Any player that is late for more than 15 mintues will be automatically disqualified, without any latitude.

5. There will be a 5 minutes pre-match preparation before any match.

6. Both sides of the players should contribute a birdie for the match. If you don't have one, you can purchase from us on the day of the tournament. Alternatively, you can join the Badminton Club and you will be given a tube of birdies that costs around $8.

7. We are really concern of safety issues. No one knows your condition better than yourself. Therefore, please do not push yourself to the extent of hurting your body. Ankles, wrists, knees, shoulders are very vulnerable to injuries.
