Statement of Purpose and History
Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi, Inc. was incorporated under the
laws of the State of Georgia in 1928, shortly after the founding
of Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi on December 15, 1923. Its
purpose was to serve as the legal owner of Alpha Iota Delta's
Lodge, engage in long-term planning for the benefit of the Alpha,
advise the Alpha on operating issues, and conduct fundraising to
assist in the achievement of the Alpha's goals.

- 1928: Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi, Inc. incorporated

- November 1928: Plans begun to build Alpha Iota
Delta's first purpose-built Lodge; fundraising
campaign initiated
- March 1929: Lot purchased at the corner of Fourth
and Fowler Streets
- September 1929: New Lodge completed

- September 1935: Alpha Iota Delta hosts the 94th National
Convention of the Chi Psi at the
Biltmore Hotel
- 1942-1943: Sharp decline in membership due to World War
II; assumption of Lodge mortgage by Chi Psi National; lease
of Lodge to Georgia Tech
for use as a dormitory
- April 1944: Georgia Tech cancels lease; Chi Psi National
sells Lodge to Alpha Tau Omega

- 1953: Cefalu Lodge purchased at 195 Tenth Street
- 1963: Adjacent lot and house purchased

- April 1966: Ground broken for Asbury
Broadus Greene, Jr. Memorial Lodge
- November 1967: Construction of Asbury Broadus
Greene, Jr. Memorial Lodge begun; Cefalu Lodge
razed
- June 1968: Asbury Broadus Greene, Jr. Memorial
Lodge dedicated

- June 1968: Alpha Iota Delta hosts the 127th National
Convention of the Chi Psi
- June 1977: Alpha Iota Delta hosts the 136th National
Convention of the Chi Psi
- May 1978: Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta makes offer to Chi Psi
Educational Trust to buy Lodge
- June 1978: Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi, Inc. and actives
make counter-offer to the Chi Psi Educational Trust;

Edmund C. Lynch, Jr. KD '48,
Thomas H. Mitchell, ID '24,
and Stephen C. Gould, I '17 contribute and lend funds to
the Alpha to make this possible
- 1978: Oliver Rowe's Program
For Excellence (now NLTP) begun
- 1984: Turner Broadcasting
System, Inc., locally known as Channel 17,
makes initial offer to buy Lodge; declined by Alpha Iota
Delta of Chi Psi, Inc, as subsequent offers would be over
the next ten years
- Summer 1985: Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi, Inc. Board
Member Robert B. "Bob" Plunkett, ID '33, elected national president
of the Chi Psi
- Spring 1986: Loan from Oliver Rowe retired
- 1986: Nottingham Road property adjacent to Lodge,
abandoned by the City of Atlanta in 1948, acquired via
quitclaim

- April 1987: Final loan from Fulton Federal
Savings and Loan retired; Alpha Iota Delta
completely debt-free; Fulton Federal mortgage
burned by Bob Plunkett, Alpha Iota Delta of Chi
Psi, Inc. President M. Daniel Berman, ID '57, and Alpha President
Ken Craig, ID '88
- August 1987: Alpha Iota Delta hosts the 146th
National Convention of the Chi Psi
- February 1988: Bob Plunkett passes away
- Spring 1989: Alpha Iota Delta of Chi Psi, Inc.
founds the Robert B.
Plunkett Memorial Educational Trust
- Summer 1989, Summer 1990: Alpha Iota Delta
runner-up for the Chi Psi Founders' Trophy
- March 1990: Asbury Broadus Greene, Jr. Memorial
Lodge undergoes $80,000 renovation

- February 1995: Asbury Broadus Greene, Jr. Memorial Lodge
sold to Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.

B. Plunkett Memorial Lodge held
