21st Century Campaign (1998 - 2003)
We are now in the third year of the 21st Century
Campaign of the Robert B. Plunkett Memorial Educational
Trust and what a year it has been! Last spring, we elected an independent board of trustees to manage
our affairs independent of the board of Alpha Iota Delta, of Chi Psi,
Inc. We feel this action enables the Plunkett Trust to better serve the needs of our undergraduate
Brothers as we look for ways to expand the educational support we can
provide.
The Robert B. Plunkett Memorial
Educational Trust was founded in 1989, to help offset the rapidly rising
costs of a college education. The Trust, initially endowed by a $5,000 donation from Stamps
Bethel, ID ’27, now has over $28,000 in assets. Over the last ten years, the Trust
has funded small, quarterly scholarships for the brothers with the highest
and most improved GPAs, as well as occasionally providing a scholarship to
a worthy Chi Psi at the national level.
Begun in 1998, The 21st Century Campaign is a five-year effort to substantially increase the assets of
the Plunkett Trust so that we may fund additional programs, such
as:
- Adding monetary awards to some of the existing
annual Formal awards, including the Thomas H. Mitchell Outstanding
Brother Award, the Highest Big Brother/Little Brother Combined GPA
Award, the Most Improved Scholarship Award, and a new award recognizing
campus leadership.
- Funding additions to the educational facilities
at the Lodge, including connecting the Lodge to the Georgia Tech
computer network and improving Lodge library and study facilities.
- Sponsoring and funding the National Leadership
Training Program (NLTP) programs--the Program for Self-Development
(PSD), the Program for Leadership Development (PLD), and the Program for
Career Guidance (PCG).
- Sponsoring and funding the annual Alpha Management Retreat
(AMR).
To
date, we have raised nearly $8,000 toward our goal but we still have a long way to
go before we can fully fund our objectives. We would like your
help...
If you wish to make a monetary gift, just
print out and fill out the attached donor
card and send it in with your contribution. Your donation will then become a
permanent part of the Trust endowment – funding for the programs will come
solely from the interest earned by the Trust’s investments. And remember,
all gifts to the Plunkett Trust are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
If you wish instead to offer your time in
support of our efforts, we would be most interested in speaking with
you. For information about how you can donate your time to the Plunkett Trust,
please e-mail me for more
information.
With your support, the Plunkett Trust will
be a strong force in promoting excellence at Alpha Iota Delta.
Yours in the Bonds,
C. Marc Wagner, ID ‘74
