Presentation from ex-president Andrew Orlando, on his summer internship working at EA Mythic on Warhammer Online.
-His character's name is Beefcake and he has huge axes.
-He worked on updating the art tools for Mythic, taking the updated versions of Gamebryo, making them work with Mythic's assets, and adding other things that Mythic wanted
-Warhammer Makeover: a tool Andrew designed to allow content guys to enter a "character creator" UI for monsters and NPCs, and assign them unique appearance values if so desired
-Keep Damage States: developed a way to keep track of damage, etc. done to captured keeps and route it to the client to change the appearance of PvP buildings
-Favorite part of internship: ability to use GM commands
-EA is coming to campus next Thursday from 11 AM to 12. They'll have a keynote speaker, Richard Wifall, and the event is held in Klaus 1443.
Game Review: "The World Ends with You" (NDS) by Robert Norman
-Action-Adventure-JPRG
-Pretty standard fare. Lots of story and goofy-looking Japanese children.
-Amusing features include reading funny stuff.
-Opening cinema is way too long for normal people to enjoy.
-You fight monsters that are animals crossed with tattoos, named afer musical genres. Dammit.
-Battle modes are controlled in real-time using the touch screen. Wow, actual gameplay. Revolutionary.
-Hooray, unskippable cutscenes.
-Even Robert admits that it has a very Japanese feel. Stay far away.
-Occasionally you will get a "partner" who will fight on the top screen while you fight on the bottom. Uh-huh. Subtle.
-Interesting to note: the characters apparently communicate using their stomachs.
-Like many JRPGs, the game becomes very repetitive. Surprise, surprise.
-You get to play dress-up with your little Japanese children and you have to buy
them popular clothes or they will die.
-As I've heard before in reviews of JRPGs, this game is only fun if you're willing to suffer for a while.
