Thank you for your interest in the Learning Assistance Program.

The Learning Assistance Program is part of the Freshman Experience Program. We seek tutors who not only have academic ability, but also have a good interpersonal skills and a desire to assist first-year students in their transition from high school to college.  Thus, we are seeking students with a good heart as well as a good mind.

The Learning Assistance Program is always taking applications, but we are not always hiring for immediate openings.  Your will be considered for hiring once we receive your completed application.

The application requires (1) reference form and an academic transcript.  The application should be complete in order for you application to be reviewed. Please read all the instructions on the application. If you meet the requirements, you will be asked to interview. There is an interview process that will last about 30 minutes and you will be asked to complete "technical questions" in calculus, chemistry, or physics. We are looking for your ability to explain the problems and your ability to explain concepts to others.

The academic requirements are a 3.0 GPA with a B or better in Calc 1 & 2, Physics 1, & Chemistry 1. You must be able to tutor in ALL of the core freshman subject areas listed above. We are looking for individuals that are comfortable tutoring FRESHMEN and can remember back to Freshman level work in Calculus, Physics & Chemistry.  Graduate students are also eligible for this position. The Learning Centers operate on a drop in basis so you could be asked any question about Calculus, Chemistry, or Physics.

We offer drop-in tutoring in nine residential learning centers across campus. Tutors are required to work two shifts per week Sun-Thursday sometime between 8pm - midnight.  The schedule is set for the semester and then you are required to find your own substitute if you can not work a particular night.

Our openings for new Tutors are only on East Campus, we do not have any openings on West campus for new Tutors. Starting pay rate is $8.50/hr for undergraduates and $11.50 for graduate students with opportunities for raises either by semester or by year depending on performance.
