Power Play Leads the Way
November 16, 2007
I was real pleased with the outcome of the game. The team was ready to play. And being such a rivalry with Georgia, it didn’t surprise me that the team did so well. Although the way we have played recently, coming out so strong in the beginning really made the difference. We were very disciplined and stuck to the system. The early goal really helped our confidence and brought the crowd to life. Then getting three power play goals in a row before the end of the first period was just unbelievable. That allowed us to play defense in the two remaining periods. Defense has been a problem, especially with the back checking by our forwards, but not this night as everyone did their job. I was real happy for Maxx, our battered first year goalie. He deserved this victory and it was nice to see that he got a shut-out. We played a physical game, but it was a smart physical, especially in the neutral zone. I am happy for this young team that is still learning, but what an improvement from the first game with Florida. B.J. Stapleton played a phenomenal game. I didn’t recall seeing him make one mistake. Whitney Yiu played real well on offense and that shorthanded goal was just plain pretty. The second line really contributed and played well. Andy DeCherico had his best game of the year. Hope we can keep the momentum going for the balance of the first half. Special thanks to the pep band and all of the students that came out. It really made a difference in our play.
