GT 3, Robert Morris 6
Robert Morris strong 1st period powers by Tech
October 27, 2006

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7 – 1) opened their home schedule with a 6-3 disappointing loss to Robert Morris University at the Duluth Ice Forum on Friday October 27th.

The game was much closer than the final score, as the Yellow Jackets overcame four unanswered goals by Robert Morris in the first period.

It appeared that the Jackets were completely out of sync in the first as Robert Morris scored four special teams goals. There were two 5-4 power play goals, one five on three power play goal and one shorthanded goal.

After period one, Tech settled down a bit and started skating with a bit more passion. They held Robert Morris scoreless through the entire second period and most of the third period.

GT Goalie Nick Rice made some incredible saves including a breakaway and a 2 on 1 one odd man advantage during mid second period to keep his team in the game.

The Yellow Jackets did get on the scoreboard three minutes into period two as they scored a power play goal by Dan Sweeney with assist from Brendan O’Leary and Josh Krisinger.

In period three, Tech was firing on all cylinders and stepped up the pace.

They had 23 shots in the period. There was a goal with 11 minutes left that was dis-allowed by the referee. Then four minutes later, Brendan O’Leary scored an even strength goal on a rebound from Josh Krisinger. Three minutes later Tom Porter scored on a scrum close in on a 5-3 power play to make the score 4-3. Assist went to Brendan O’Leary and Mike Zuacha.

With the defense pinching in to get the equalizer, there was a turnover by the defense and Robert Morris scored on a breakaway with 2:47 minutes left to take a 5-3 lead.

The visitors then scored an empty net goal with 11 seconds to go to cap the scoring 6-3.

Tech out shot Robert Morris 58-35 and dominated the second half of the game, but couldn’t overcome the 4-0 first period deficit.
