GT 6, Clemson 2
Rice, Stage Win in Finale
December 2, 2006
The Clemson game on 2 December was the final game for two graduating seniors; forward Kyle Stage and goalie Nick Rice.
There were no last minute heroics in this game as Tech played a complete game from start to finish. The Jackets played a tight defensive game in period one allowing just two shots on goal.
GT scored late in the first period on a nice shot by Drew Baker and assist to Dan Sweeney to take a 1-0 lead after one.
Period two saw two quick even strength goals, the first by graduating senior Kyle Stage (assist to Nick Amore) and 40 seconds later by Tom Porter (assist to Sweeney and Pat Kelly).
Tech did get a power play goal within the last minute on a goal by B.J. Stapleton (assist to Sweeney and Baker) to take a 4-0 lead after two.
Period three saw a end to end goal by Mike Zaucha (unassisted) within the first 4 minutes for a 5-0 advantage.
Clemson broke the shutout 30 seconds later on a shot that snuck through the pads of goalie Nick Rice.
Clemson then got a great power play goal on sharp passing four minutes later to get within three.
Tech finished the scoring with 49 seconds to play on a nice shot by Brendan O’Leary with assist to Stage. The Jackets out shot Clemson 42-22
Graduating senior Kyle Stage had a goal and assist in his final game and goalie Nick Rice made 20 saves in his finale. Both players will be missed and the Tech coaching staff and players wish their teammates success in the future.
