Coach Stathis, who has fearlessly fought through numerous health challenges over the course of his coaching career, will need to replace the failing organ which was originally transplanted into him after being donated from his mother.
Stathis had been experiencing signs of imminent failure for several months. Around the end of May, his health took a turn for the worse and the organ began to slow down significantly.
Doctors are currently testing George Stathis, Greg's brother, to determine if he would be a donor match. He is also back on the kidney donor list.
For the time being, he is required to go to a dialysis center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for three hours of dialysis in order to survive while the game plan is being formulated by his doctors.
At this point Georgia Tech hockey remains in the forefront of coach's mind. He plans to continue coaching and is setting up future treatments around his practice and game schedule.
He is always thrilled to hear from his former players ("his boys") and fellow coaches throughout the country.
Please take a moment to contact Greg to let him know you are there.
