The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets started the 2nd half of the 2006-2007 season with the seventh annual “Rumble in the Rink” Tournament in Savannah, Georgia.

Game one of the tournament saw the Jackets face-off with Florida State and the debut of goalie Craig Tabita who replaced long time starter Nick Rice who graduated in December.

It was a dubious start for Craig who gave up a power play goal just 1:22 minutes of the first period.

Things turned around for Tech as they scored four unanswered goals.

The first came at 3:48 of the period with a strong push by Mike Zaucha (assist to Dan Sweeney).

The second was a power play goal by Brendan O’Leary with assists to Tom Porter and Zaucha.

Goal three was a nice up ice rush by Porter at 10:22 of the period (assists to Zaucha and Sweeney) and the last goal of the period came at 15:33 on a rebound shot by Dan Sweeney (assist by defenseman Arne Krogh).

FSU did get another power play goal late in the period (at 17:30) to make the score 4-2 after one period.

Tech got two goals in the second period. The first came at 7:47 on Dan Sweeney’s second goal of the game with assist to Porter.

Brendan O’Leary got his second goal of the night on a back handed spin shot with assist to Christian Gattung. That came at 11:52 of the period.

Score after two was 6-2 Georgia Tech and Goalie Tabita appeared to have settled down with all of the offensive support.

Tech got just one goal in the third period. It came at 11:52 when defenseman B.J. Stapleton fired a shot from the point that hit the corner of the net. Assist went to Tom Porter.

FSU scored another power play goal at 13:23 and an even strength goal at 19:52 of the period to make the final score 7-4.

Tabita faced 20 shots making 16 saves, but three of the four goals were on the power play. For the offense, Porter and Sweeney both have 4 points and Mike Zaucha had three. Tech had 44 shots in the contest.
