The undermanned Georgia Tech Hockey Club finished it’s four week road trip with two loses in Central Florida.
Considering the circumstances and injuries, the overall performance over the weekend saw improved play and hope for better things to come over the next few months.
The basic problem was endurance as the Jackets were in both games after two periods, but could not close or endure in period three of both games. In Saturday’s game against Central Florida , the game was close at 4-3 UCF’s advantage after two periods.
The team wore down and game injuries forced GT to play with depleted offensive and defensive lines.
Freshman Maxx Lucas played outstanding in goal again, but needs help in limiting shot opportunities.
Tom Porter returned to the line-up after missing 6 games with a hat trick for three of GT’s 4 goals.
In game 2 on Sunday afternoon against South Florida , the game was scoreless after two periods. But the young Tech team gave up two shorthanded goals early in period three to open the door for USF. As in Saturday’s night game, stamina was a major factor in period three as the defense was down to four players. USF did get an empty net goal to make the final score 4-1
