The Georgia Tech Hockey Club (2-8) played their home opener against the Loyola Greyhounds on Friday October 19th and the local fans came away disappointed as the Jackets dropped their fifth straight 6-2.
As usual, Tech came out strong and seemed to dominate the opening 8 minutes as they took a 1-0 lead on a two man advantage power play.
The goal was scored by Jeremy Spafard as he punched it in on a rebound. Whitney Yiu and Tom Porter got the assists.
Still on a power play, a hard hit on the boards caused a glass panel to shatter and the game was held up about 30 minutes with clean-up and re-surfacing of the ice occurred.
The momentum the Jackets had was gone and while Loyola remained scoreless in the 1st period, they had shot after shot opportunity with only great saves by Tech goalie Maxx Lucas keeping the 1-0 Jacket advantage good after period one.
Poor defense and some second shot opportunities saw the Greyhounds score 4 unanswered goals in period two.
Period three saw more of the same as Loyola opened a 6-1 lead until Tech scored with about 8 minutes left on a goal by Drew Baker with assists to Andy DeCherico and Dale Sharpe.
Maxx Lucas faced 48 shots in the game.
