The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Hockey Club held their third annual Veterans Day Salute and tribute on Saturday November 10th in a pre-game ceremony prior to hosting the Duke Blue Devils at the Cooler in Alpharetta. Every player on both teams and officials were given a American Flag Pin in recognition of family members that have or currently are serving in the Armed Forces. The presentation of the colors, on ice, by the GT ROTC was followed by Taps as played by the GT Pep Band and the singing of the national anthem. All proceeds from the evening went to the Tyler Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund.

After the opening ceremony, the puck was dropped as the young and depleted Yellow Jackets faced off with the Div II Blue Devils who just lost their first game of the season the night before. Tech was down to just 13 skaters (3 lines of offense and 2 lines of defense) due to injuries and illness. They rebounded from a poor performance the previous week and lost in a shoot out 4-3. It didn't take Duke long to score as they came out with the first two minutes to score a power play goal. But the Jackets bounced back and three minutes later scored on a scrum in front of the net and goal by Whitney Yiu (assist to Jeremy Spaford). At the 12 minute mark of the first period, Tech took the lead on a short handed goal by Drew Baker (unassisted). The 2-1 lead stood up from almost 20 minutes, but Duke got the equalizer on another power play goal with 9 minutes left in period two. Duke broke the tie with 6:30 gone in third period but the Jackets quickly tied the score within a minute on a goal by Tom Porter (assist to Whitney Yiu and Jeremy Spaford). Neither team scored again in the final period nor in the 5 minute overtime. Duke outlasted the Jackets 2-1 in the shoot out that went 10 skaters apiece.

Maxx Lucas, in goal, faced 52 shots in regulation and OT plus 10 more in the shoot out. He made 57 saves.
