The Georgia tech Yellow Jackets started the second half of the season with a split against East Carolina University and Clemson. The ECU game was a tale of two games, with GT standing strong in two periods (1st and 3rd) but falling apart in the 2nd period where they gave up four goals total and three in just a 5 minute period. The final score was ECU 5, GT 2. Both teams had 5 weeks off due to the Winter Break and it showed in the first period as neither team could muster much offense. Passes were missing and in general the play was sluggish for both squads. However, ECU got it together in period two with three even strength goals and one power play goal. One goal was deflected by a Tech player and another came off a turnover in the defensive zone while a third came on the power play. In the third period, the Jackets got their offense going on two power play goals. One by the offense off a rebound by Drew Baker (assist to Brian O'Connor and Dan Podratsky) and the other by the defense on a hard shot from the point by B.J. Stapleton (assist to Derek von Zweck and Josh Krisinger). But that was all of the offense they could put together. Tech was out shot 43 to 32. Goalie Maxx Lucas made 38 saves.
In game two over the weekend against Clemson, the team skated and passed much better and came away with a 3-2 win. Clemson started the scoring in the first period on a power play goal with 7 minutes left in the period. Tech came back 5 minutes later and scored on a nice goal by Dale Sharpe (assist to David Means and Drew Baker). Tech got a power play goal late in the 2nd period to take a 2-1 lead on a goal by Brian O'Connor (outlet pass assist to Dale Sharpe). However Clemson tied the score with just 12 seconds before period 2 ending that made the score 2-2. Mid way through the third period, Brian O'Connor scored an even strength goal (assist to Drew Baker and Grant Weaver) to break the tie and the defense held on for the 3-2 win. Tech and Clemson both had 38 shots and goalie Maxx Lucas made 36 saves.
