Omicron Delta Kappa places emphasis upon the development of the whole person, both as a present member of the college community and as a prospective contributor to a better society. The society believes that while good scholarship and intellectual development are the chief objectives of the college years, the life of the mind is not the only life students will have to cope with as the result of their college experience. There are also important lessons and personal qualities, which one learns and develops through an integrated program of academic and extracurricular education. The founders of ODK formulated the idea that leadership of exceptional quality and versatility in college should be recognized, that representatives in all phases of college life should cooperate in a worthwhile endeavor, and that outstanding students, faculty, and administration members should meet on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness.

The purpose of Omicron Delta Kappa is threefold:

  • First, to recognize those who have attained a high standard of efficiency in collegaite activities, and to inspire others to strive for the conspicuous attainment along similar lines;
  • Second, to bring together the most representative students in all phases of collegiate life and those to create an organization which will help mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate interests;
  • Third, to bring together members of the faculty and student body on the basis of mutual interest and understanding.

The Alpha Eta Circle at Georgia was established at Georgia Tech in 1930 and has a rich history on our campus. Membership in ODK is awarded to undergraduate junior and senior students, graduate students, and members of the faculty and administration.

ODK nationally recognizes student leadership in five areas:

  • Scholarship
  • Athletics
  • Campus and Community Service, Social and Religious Activities, and Campus Government
  • Journalism, Speech, and Mass Media
  • Creative and Performing Arts

Today, ODK plays in active role in campus affairs, hosting several events on campus and presenting several awards to outstanding members of the Georgia Tech community.

As Georgia Tech’s premier leadership honor society, we shall strive to promote and recognize leadership excellence, foster communication, and share resources through the collaboration of our Circle with the Georgia Tech community.
