With our second attempt at a semester, we had a better than normal social program. Once again we had an event almost every one of the 15 weeks.
We started with a post-rush party, which was one of our most heavily attended parties of the semester. With plenty of new people to meet we had a great time with a well-stocked bar and one of the brothers spinning discs for the party.
We followed the next week with a recently created tradition, Phi Kap Movie Night. We pulled out the old classics that all of us know and munched snack food and milk shakes. We're going to try to continue this event in the future so that every new pledge can be indoctrinated in the ways of Army of Darkness and the Kentucky Fried Movie.
Bar Phi Kap took over a good portion of the social calendar this time, occurring at least 3 times (depending on who you ask). We pull out the DJ equipment, thanks to Brian Clark for a great job building and donating the system, and stock the bar for a good old-fashioned party. Invite your friends and just hang out and have fun kind of party. Also very cheap and easy to throw together, he he.
Our outdoor events were plagued by bad weather, with our first attempt being snowed out (yup, I said snowed). We rescheduled and a group of brothers hiked Panther Creek until they found the waterfall that they were questing for. Although a couple of people almost collapsed of dehydration, they valiantly finished their hike and had plenty of fun.
Then, of course, there was the Hooters Drop Day Party, where we feasted our bellies and our eyes on the wings and "sights" respectively. We hope to see more alumni at hooters though, since they were sorely missed this time.
Redneck Rampage reared its ugly head again, with a new and improved, even tougher "Buckin' Bronco." This time, the Nonz, our Social Assistant and future Social Chair, took charge and delivered barbecue, fried chicken, and a great theme party. Well it's now officially an annual event, and we always have fun making fun of the little things of being a redneck. The pitchforks and hay bales, the bad country, and the mailbox baseball all adds to the main entertainment of falling off a 55-gallon drum.
We ended the semester with the most extravagant party in recent Phi Kap history, Hell Freezes Over. Dave Eison came through on his promise of throwing (and paying for) a huge graduation bash when "hell freezes over" and we graduate. Nine brothers graduated this semester and we invited over 500 people to the party. We got an amazing turnout of probably 150 over the evening, and there were more fresh faces than ever before at a Phi Kap party. The most amazing thing about this party was the eight and a half tons of ice that was turned into snow and sprayed onto the backyard. Snow in May is not something you normally see in Atlanta, but that made it all the more fun when we got into snowball fights and built a 4 foot snowman. Eison also hired a DJ, who turned our chapter room into a flashing dance hall. It was the largest party this house has seen to date.
Well, after two semesters and two quarters, I've now ended my term as the Social Chair and at Tech. Norm Sammons, the Nonz, will take over now. This is Stewart, signing off.
