VII LATIN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

The Spanish Speaking Organization @ Georgia Tech is proud to present our 2007 Latin American Film Festival.
We will be showing a total of six of the most highly acclaimed Latin American movies from various different genres.
We will also have free, delicious hispanic food available before the first (March 30) and last (April 14) screenings of the festival.
All movies shown in Spanish with English subtitles in the Georgia Tech College of Architecture Auditurium.
Start time 7 PM.

Habana Blues [Cuba 2005] Two young cuban musicians, Ruy and Tito, share the same dream: to become famous and finally leave Havana. Ruy lives with Caridad and their two children. Although they still love each other, their relationship seems close to an end. Tito is on his own living with his grandmother. While in rehearsals for their first big concert, they learn that Spanish producers Martha and Lorenzo are in Cuba looking for new talents. Facing what might be the chance of a lifetime, they will have to conquer the Spanish. March 30 |

Minimas [Argentina 2002] Near the provincial town of San Julian, three vibrant characters undertake seemingly mundane journeys that turn out to be subtly life changing. A lonely, fastidious traveling salesman quests for the perfect cream cake to win the widow of his dreams. A grizzly grandfather hitchhikes to town to find his forgotten lost dog and seek forgiveness. A poor young mother hopes to win the grand prize--a microprocessor--as a contestant on a TV game show. In the end, the three will get more or less what they set out for, but it will come to them in ways that they never expected. April 6 |

Tijeras [Colombia 2005] The movie, based on a book by Jorge Franco, deals with the life of a beautiful woman involved with the hitmen subculture sicariato of the late-eighties/early-nineties of the slums of Medellín, Colombia. Rosario, a dangerous woman claiming to be owned by no man, lives a life on the edge while trying to come to terms with her past and the men in her life, not making the best choices along the way. Mundo Maravilloso [Mexico 2006] When a homeless man is accidentally left out on the ledge of the World Financial Center his presence there is misinterpreted as a suicide protest. As a media firestorm ensues, the erstwhile bum is exploited by a government scrambling to protect its interests. Deliciously grim, this dark satire offers a wry commentary on the social and economic inequities of Mexico. April 14 |
