Practice Update

posted on 11/06/09: 5:48 PM

We've gotten access to the O'keefe volleyball facility on campus and in order to have practices in there at normal hours we now meet Mondays and Wednesdays 7-9 PM. We're trying to gun for morning practices next semester so that we don't have nearly as many job, school, fraternity time conflicts but we'll see how that works out. I realize Wednesday is pretty bad for a lot of people.

Samples for measuring sizes for the uniforms and warmups are still in transit so at this rate we might be able to record sizes before the semester is over, but getting everyones clothes delivered before second semester is doubtful, especially if they are shipped at the same rate as the samples. We're getting shoes from Asics so if you've paid your dues and haven't given your shoe size to Jake email him.

We did well in our first tournament but didn't win, so we'll be spending the majority of the remaining practices focusing on the teams weaknesses in time for our next tournament at GT: Nov 21.

Facebook Group, Dues, First Tournament & Uniforms

If you want updates and messages go to facebook and request to join the "Georgia Tech Men's Volleyball" group. We're starting to mess around more with defensive drills, positioning on the court and rotations in preparation for our first upcoming tournament at home (10/31). We're ordering jerseys, shorts, sweats and warmups for everyone on the team which leads me to the due part.

SGA mandates that all roster members of any sports club organization at tech pay at least 100$ (up from 75 last year). We're still keeping it at a minimum and joining gets you access to a bunch of goodies; clothes, home and away games (ranging from fl to ca), etc. I realize it's a ton of money but you get its worth in full and it is for a year. Other clubs such as crew, ice hockey, lacrosse, among others charge over $1,000. We fundraise so we can keep the costs low.

Last thing; our clothes this year are coming from Panzeri (a European clothing company). We're having samples coming in the near future so be sure to get your sizes recorded.

Indoor Season Kicks Off

posted on 09/25/09: 01:00 AM

We're going to start slowly getting more serious about indoor as the temperature gets colder in the upcoming months. Second practice is next tuesday, 9/29, from 8-10. For more information hit up Jake (937-776-0277) or Chudy (203-898-4233). Practice times will be posted on here every week, although they should stay the same for the most part. See you guys around.

Style Sheet Restored

posted on 08/30/09: 01:44 AM

I checked the site about 5 minutes ago and nothing was loading. When I checked the server it appeared that the style sheet that controls the layout and whatnot of the site was straight up deleted. I restored an older version and am trying to update it to where it was, so for the time being, please bear with us. The information contained through-out the site is still the same.

Welcome to the site, we are the men's club team at Georgia Tech. If you're interested in the sport, have played beach or indoor and want to get back into it at college, we're here to play.

We're always looking for more people for competition, games and overall fun. As of right now we're outside a couple times a week so if you want to drop by and say hi, or show us what you're made of, contact Jake (937-776-0277) or me (Chudy: 203-898-4233). If you know any of the club players they can tell you too but I don't have their permission to stick their numbers up on this page.

If you see anyone thats hit a fairly hard jump serve its probably us, feel free to say wassup.

Practice Times & Signing Up For Classes

Beach

Last year we held practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10. but we won't start those off until at least a couple weeks into the fall semester.

More importantly keep tuesday & thursday afternoons from 12-6 open for beach. 3 of our biggest beach guys are going to be helping out the girls team MWF in that time frame and intramurals takes over the courts at 6 for the first half of the semester. I put a beach picture up because I like the yellow, green, blue color combo that we have outside of the crc on our courts.

As for the off-season, for those that want to increase their verts do NOT do air alert. We had a couple guys try it back during winter and for 15 weeks of hopping there was a lot more injury then gains. I personally recommend the vertical jump bible. Nothing increases vert more than pure leg strength.

On a seemingly unrelated note, props to Jake & Marin. Our budget for the 09-10 year is almost double that of last year. This means more balls, travel and perhaps other goodies.

Semester Drawing to a Close

Marin Smash
As the spring semester comes to a close, we're eagerly anticipating the start of the fall. By which I mean more beach volleyball, not schoolwork. Anyone who's stuck at GaTech over the summer check the sand courts here and at Piedmont park, there are a lot of guys who play who are no longer students here. For all of the incoming freshmen who might be reading this, come out and chill on the sand courts next semester. Call up Jake or email him, his information is on the contact page.

We have yet to see what we're going to do with the indoor team; try-outs, practice times etc. I'm going to put up some of the more legit pics from nationals in the mean-time to avoid studying in the library.

For everyone else, after this dung storm (no cussing allowed on the website) of a week is over, we're going to chill all dead week on the sand courts. Bring yo' game faces cuz I dun want to play no shayza. Update: The weekend BBQ was a success. See you all next year.

More Pictures, Nationals in 2-3 days, Beach Season

posted on 04/06/09: 01:53 PM

We've uploaded some pictures from this year, you can find them under the pictures tab up above. We're going to be sure to take more during nationals this week and hopefully find some more from all the beach we played first semester. We're still leaving on Wednesday at 11:00 AM from in front of the CRC. The excused absences have been approved by the dean so if you haven't picked your papers yet go talk to Jake.

We've been spending more and more time outside on the sand courts as the weather becomes more temperate, if you're interested in joining the club or just hanging out with us don't be shy. After nationals are over we will no longer be having indoor practice but will instead spend more time out in the sun getting ready for beach tournaments. The weekend of April 18th we're headed down to Deerfield Beach, FL, to represent. For more information about anything hit the contact page up and send an email to anyone on the list or call Jake (# is also over there.)

Nationals & Beach Tournaments

posted on 03/13/09: 02:04 PM

We're taking a 12 person van to Kansas City, leaving Wednesday at around 11:00 AM. Everyone who cannot physically leave the campus by then needs to give Jake a headsup. At the moment we have 4 plane tickets bought out for those who cannot leave work or have fairly important tests later that week.

We're getting the deans approval for an official school wide notice of absence, so if you need to talk to your professors about getting excused from school work, most teachers should be receiving that notice in the near future.

Brief Update: Indoor & Sand

posted on 02/24/09: 11:31 AM

We didn't place at the tournament at UT but we definitely saw lots of improvement from everybody so indoor is still a go. As of right now we're looking to go to the Georgia Southern tournament on March 7th, so free up your calenders. Nationals is almost a definite so get your classes, work & tests out of the way for the April 7-11th.

We're looking at some upcoming beach tournaments as well, so we'll be out on the sand courts almost everyday as soon as the temperature starts hitting 60 F and up. See you guys at practice.

As for club players, the scrimmage is on for Thursday at 8.00 PM. Show up, some of our players are graduating and it might be the last time you see them.

The sweats are also in, we got grey tops & pants with volleyball logos imprinted on both, and your jersey # on one of the sleeves. Come pick them up tomorrow or you'll have to wait until next semester.

Scrimmage on Thursday

posted on 12/7/08: 4:51 PM

We're trying to gauge interest for another scrimmage against Kami's team on thursday. I realize it's finals week but if you're available give Jake a heads-up; heinrichs.jake AT gmail.com. Sweats are probably going to be in by then so thursday could be a potential pick-up day as well.

New Design

posted on 12/3/08: 3:30 PM

Hey guys, new site is up. I got rid of all the tables and most of the images, making it a little bit faster & efficient, plus better looking & easier on the eyes. I've gotten almost all of the old information converted into this format, plus there will be a print option from now on, on all tournament related pages so teams have an easier, cleaner way of getting the information on a piece of paper.

Last practice of the semester is this Thursday. We have a scrimmage planned, show up.

Apparel & Shoes:

posted on 11/13/08

Shoes should be in by Friday morning. Check your emails to see who owes what. If you want to break them in before Saturdays tournament, bring a check, cash or pay online before you pick them up. The link for online payment is on the right side under annual dues. Jerseys, shorts, sweatpants and sweatshirts should be in by friday as well.

If you're not on the mailing list hit up gtvolleyball AT gmail.com. See you all at practice Thursday and tournament Saturday morning.

Georgia Tech Home Tournament: 11/15/08

(11/06/08)

Our first home tournament in the 08-09 year is quickly coming up, only two weekends away. For all those interested we are currently full for both the A and B bracket and are not accepting anymore teams. We plan on hosting 2-3 more home tournaments in the spring so there'll be plenty of other opportunities to play volleyball at GT. Good luck to everyone's who participating.

Team Update:

(10/18/08)

Our first tournament is in about a month. We've been assigning positions for the competition team. If you have not paid dues or been coming to practice, we will omit your names from the official lists for 2009. You must be an official club member to play in the tournaments. Thanks to those who come out to practice each week.

BroBQ Update:

(10/01/08)

Since there's a home football game this weekend on the same day as the previously planned date for the BBQ we're pushing the date back two weeks.

The new and improved BroBQ is going to take place October 18th on the sand courts. If you feel you have what it takes feel free to play with us.

Semester Update:

(09/29/08)

1. Balls: We should be playing with all new Pro Touch Indoor balls in a week, once they come in!

2. Apparel: New and you can keep Jerseys, shorts and shoes. We are going to be able to get all new jerseys to complement the all black jerseys we currently have, along with either board shorts or regular sport shorts, depending on what people want and also new shoes for the competition team, so get to practice as much as you can. Marin, Chudy and I are doing Air Alert (Vert Exercises) after practice and throughout the week.

I'll bring some sample pics of the jerseys and shorts, that I like, if you have any specific brand you like let me know.

3. Financial: $1000/month from working volleyball Inturmurals every week I just talked to the head of intramurals and I have been working on trying to Ref the volleyball games Indoor and Out, to make extra money for the team.

There is a training thing next week Wednesday the 8th of October at 6:30 in the CRC, that if everyone can make, it would be great. We will be able to make a $1000 every month if we can get this going.

If we can make this work, I would like to be able to buy apparel every year for each individual player and let you keep everything, so call me, e-mail me and let me know if you can make it. See you at practice Thursday, 8 o'clock.

- Jake
