Avondale High School Tutoring

This project is a part of Hands on Atlanta, which is a nonprofit organization that helps individuals and organizations find volunteer work around Atlanta. The volunteers spend every day building community and meeting critical needs in schools, parks, senior homes, food banks, pet shelters, low-income neighborhoods and more.

Underwood Hills

Underwood Hills is a local park located off Howell Mill Road that has been restored for the use of the neighborhood children to have a safe place to play.

We will be cleaning up trash and doing light yard work at this local park. They provide all the tools and gloves for necessary work.

PAWS Atlanta

PAWS Atlanta is a No Kill animal adoption center. The mission of PAWS Atlanta, Inc. is to provide shelter, food and medical care for abandoned pets, and ensure they are placed in safe, loving homes.

Project Description:
Only one to two people can participate in the cat cleaning and playing with the cats. However, the rest get to play with the dogs and clean up that area. This will be a dirty event so please dress accordingly.

City of Refuge

Using the City of Refuge warehouse as a base, we are committed to deploying men, women, and resources into environments where difficulty resides, bringing hope to those living there. The promise of a better life, along with the tools to build that life, is the passion of City of Refuge.

We will be playing with children and helping to inspire them to be greater than staying in their bad neighborhoods. Songs and games will be played. This is a Christian group so they may include Christian lessons.

This group is a non-profit animal rescue organization. There are no cages and it is a no-kill animal shelter.

Girls, Inc

This is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas.

Volunteers will be tutoring middle to high school age girls in their homework or studies. The subjects will range from math, science, social studies, and language arts.

FOCUS

FOCUS provides emotional, informational, and physical support to parents of children with disabilities or with ongoing medical needs. FOCUS families deal with a variety of developmental delays, including rare syndromes, cerebral palsy, heart problems, immune deficiencies, and neurological involvement.

PADV

Partnership Against Domestic Violence is the largest and oldest nonprofit domestic violence agency in Georgia. PADV has confidential domestic violence shelters in both Fulton and Gwinnett. We have a variety of programs available to assist survivors of domestic violence, including crisis line, legal advocacy, and community outreach.

Enchanted Closet, Inc Girls Program

The Enchanted Closet is a volunteer-run, private non-profit service organization whose mission is to physically, mentally, and emotionally outfit Metro Atlanta high school girls from low-income families through programs that prepare them for social and professional milestones.

Project Description:
We will be running a forum that will focus on stressors-things that cause stress to teens and contribute to risky behavior and bad decisions. Some issues they have identified are pressure to have sex, use drugs, sexual orientation, family pressures to succeed, and lack of money.
