About the Move
Dear WREK Friends and Alumni,
A great opportunity has arisen for WREK and we wanted to call your attention to it.
WREK is being offered the opportunity to move into the new "Student Center Commons." This new facility is the former Houston building adjacent to the student center which once housed the bookstore. It is currently undergoing a $6.1 million renovation that will make it an integral part of the existing student center. Tech has allocated 1,330 square feet to WREK for a new air studio, production studio, music vault, engineering space, office and lobby. It.s first-class space right in the heart of the Tech campus and will bring WREK to the center of campus life.
To take advantage of this opportunity, the station needs our help. Georgia Tech has been very generous in funding the renovation and build-out of the new facility. But no Institute funds are available to move existing equipment, rebuild and rewire the station or replace well-used gear. Anyone who ever worked at WREK will understand what a daunting challenge this is.
We'd like to build a new facility of which we can all be proud. To do this, we need to raise $100,000 by December 2003 and an additional $50,000 by June 30, 2004. This will allow us to relocate and rebuild the station (including the STL and the satellite dishes) and to provide a fund for future maintenance. (You might be interested to know that the station receives essentially the same funding from student activity fees that it did in 1970!)
Many of us owe a lot to WREK because of the contribution it made to our student life and to our professional careers.
We believe strongly in this effort and have already made our commitments. Will you please join us? Please make an investment so that future generations will have the same opportunity that we did.
