The World Student Fund
The World Student Fund (WSF) helps international students interested in studying at the
Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech)
in Atlanta, GA by sending
information, assisting through the acceptance process, and securing out-of-state
tuition waivers.
History
The World Student Fund's first exchange program began in 1948/49 with the
University of Stuttgart, Germany.
A tradition of annual exchanges with Stuttgart, in both directions, has continued in an unbroken string
since then. Other universities with which WSF has a strong tradition of exchange include
TU Berlin,
TU Braunschweig, and
Universität Dortmund
(all in Germany); Toulouse, France; and the
ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
Dozens of students from other universities and countries have also participated.
Services
Once students accepted into our program arrive in Atlanta,
they are met by WSF members at the airport
and provided with temporary accommodation for the first few days. Members help new students adjust to
student life in the States and at Tech, and introduce them to new friends and fellow members. For
those members already settled and studying at Tech, the WSF organizes weekend trips and get-togethers
and holds regular meetings.
The Naumann-Etienne-Foundation
The Naumann-Etienne-Foundation (NEF) works in close cooperation with the WSF. Dr. Ruediger Naumann-Etienne
is a former WSF scholar and Georgia Tech alumn, who awards two scholarships each year for graduate studies at
Georgia Tech. Eligible fields of study are industrial engineering, biotechnology,
electrical engineering, computer science, and computer engineering. Originally limited to students of the
TU Dresden and the
TU Berlin,
where he did his undergraduate studies, the scope has recently been extended to include
eastern European campuses.
NEF scholarship recipients are WSF scholars as well, and the WSF administers tuition and monthly stipend payment from
NEF funds.
