We try to make it as easy as possible to become a member of the YJFC. Before you dive in, though, we understand that you might have some remaining questions. The best way to get these questions answered is just to stop by at a YJFC meeting. We love hearing from new people, even if you are only interested in taking a look around. We don't bite - really! See below for information about meetings. Another way to have your questions or concerns answered is to write to our minister of information. Feel free to ask about the club and its operation, and anything else about flight training. Please allow a few days for a response.

Visiting any YJFC meeting is the first step to getting the ball rolling. A link at the bottom of this page will give you our meeting schedule. There we'll provide you with a new member packet, with all sorts of forms and information. Once you've made up your mind, just come back for a second Executive Committee meeting (since attendance at two meetings is required for our prospective members), introduce yourself to the club officers, and give us a little information so we can get to know you (never fear...we don't bite). The Executive Committee will vote on you, just to affirm that you seem like a living, breathing human being.

After you settle up with the Treasurer, you're all set. For more information on fees, check here. The next person to check in with is Dave Meilander, our Chief Flight Instructor. He will match you up with one of our club instructors either to begin your training, or to check you out in our aircraft if you already have a license. Then it's up to you and your instructor to decide when and how often to fly. There have been people in the club who can put aside time every day to fly and have made it from start to finish in a little over a month. Others are more limited in time and money and have been student pilots for a few years. The typical person flies once or twice a week and completes his or her training in 8 months to one year.
